Meet John Ryan
John Ryan has practiced law in Shiawassee and Genesee Counties since 2020. He has served as an associate attorney with the McKone Law Firm, as an assistant public defender in Shiawassee County, and as a judicial advisory assistant to the Honorable David Newblatt of Michigan’s 7th Judicial Circuit. He currently serves as municipal attorney for six municipalities in east-central Michigan. John is the current president of the Shiawassee County Bar Association, having previously served as its secretary and treasurer, and also serves as president of the Community Corrections Advisory Board.
A New Jersey native, John earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology from Rutgers University, his master’s degree in political science from Syracuse University, and his law degree from Wake Forest University. While in law school, he pursued hands-on training in trial advocacy, expungement, and wrongful conviction work. After graduating, he relocated to Michigan in 2019 to join his wife, Rachel, in her home state. John and Rachel live in Shiawassee County with their three children. In their free time, they enjoy exploring Michigan, watching movies, and spending time with family.
